History of the Prancing Horse (Cavallino Rampante)

Famous symbol of the Ferrari race team is the Prancing Horse (Italian: Cavallino Rampante) background is black with a yellow shield, which added the initials letters SF (for Scuderia Ferrari), and three strips of green lines, white and red (the Italian national flag colors ). While the symbols used in the road car Ferrari prancing horse emblem is mounted on the nose of the car and on some models the symbol is also installed on both sides of the car.

The origin of the use of the Prancing Horse symbols began when Enzo Ferrari won a rally event held in Ravenna, Italy. After he finished the rally event met the Countess Paolina, mother of Count Francesco Baracca, a famous Italian pilot who also is a hero of World War I. Count Francesco Baracca was known always put a picture on the Prancing Horse fuselage. In short, Countess Paolina then asked Enzo Ferrari to put a picture in each car Prancing Horse Ferrari to bring luck.

Enzo then redesign the Prancing Horse image that will be used in every car Ferrari. The results of the design is a bit different from the picture version of the Prancing Horse Count in which he changes the color of the horse from red to black (as an homage to the Count who died in an air combat) and change the direction of the tail wagging the horse to be facing up. Enzo also add a background color behind the yellow prancing horse picture as a tribute to his hometown of Modena, who was also wearing the same colors in the emblem of the city.

Ferrari began to use the prancing horse emblem as the official symbol of the company in 1929. Prancing Horse emblem could also be used by the Ferrari racing team while they are still under the auspices of the manufacturer Alfa Romeo in 1932.
However, the Prancing Horse motif image actually has long existed as a similar motif can be found in old coins Rowawi royal relics of the past. That's why Ferrari is not the only user picture Prancing Horse. City of Stuttgart in Germany also use images as the prancing horse emblem of the city. Stuttgart itself there are two well-known automobile manufacturers headquartered there, the Mercedes-Benz and Porsche. The two manufacturers are the main rivals Ferrari and Alfa Romeo racing event in the 1930s. Stuttgart city name comes from the old German word, Stutengarten, which means stallion and if translated into Italian into Scuderia. For the record, Porsche also adopted the symbol of the horse as a symbol of the city of Stuttgart jingkraknya perusahaannnya. Two other companies that also use the same symbol is: Avanti (fuel retail companies Austria), and the Iron Horse Bicycles (bicycle manufacturer from the U.S.).

Fabio Taglioni, a Ducati motorcycle racer from Italy, also had to wear the Prancing Horse emblem on his motorcycle. Tagliano use of such symbols is because his father is also an Italian pilot in World War I, although no one squadron of the Count Francesco Baracca. But once this is complete racer era, Ducati, who likely have agreed with Ferrari, was no longer wearing the Prancing Horse emblem on their bikes.

Now, the horse symbol and The Prancing Horse  has been patented by Ferrari, although there are several other companies that use the logo and the name is almost the same.
